Poetry

poetry is the art of releasing in a breath
what could not be dislodged by the gale

in this way some may realize moments
in which they've striven all their lives

and thereby find kindred hearth
round to warm amid bitter storm

the poet is not the more wise
the poet is merely the path blazed
that others have prior trod

To My One Tender In Years

You have had a hard life as brief as it has been thus far
as too have I only mine has seen the graying of the years
You have within you a spirit of acceptance and gentle compassion
that with the gray years lingering within me, I would only hope I could know
You have within you a spirit of joy in the face of hardship
that with the gray years lingering within me, I would only hope I could know
You have within you a spirit of loyalty and the value of a friend
that with the gray years lingering within me, I would only hope I could know
You have within you a spirit of love and forgiveness
that with the gray years lingering within me, I would only hope I could know

how in a time so brief have values so time tested found a heart so true

To Love

To love is to hold oneself vulnerable to the wound
with abandon hope pursues it,
in passion faith embraces it,
and in surrender grace brings peace and
becomes our advocate
throughout, love sows understanding
and grows closer through this covenant
therefore, although it feigns destruction, be not rueful of the wound
because the enemy of the wounded heart is the one proud
and vanity its true prison
love lay not supine
nor can it be a thing beset
or contained anymore than warrior prayers
borne through death to storm the gates of Hades
but only seized in cession
and in the full measure of ITS time
is known
love
can not be learned until known
can not be gained until given
and will only overcome in surrender
